Capabilities Unlock Creativity

fal’s H3 Max dropped last week and video generation is suddenly faster than real time and cheap enough to iterate on. That’s what you need when you’re building for consumers: you need to be able to experiment, generate, throw it away, and try again fast.

We always knew this was coming. What’s new is that when a capability like this lands, you can go from “whoa, we can do this now” to something you can actually iterate on in a day.

So I kind of dropped everything.

We’ve had a million ideas for video, but the first one I’ve been obsessed with is music videos for your Alts.

An Alt already lets you and your friends put each other into new situations. Bring each other places. Invent new group lore. Make stupid things together.

Recently we added songs (thanks Suno), because music is a connector — a joke can become a song, and a little piece of group lore can suddenly have a chorus.

Video was the obvious next step: one character, one song, one animation.

So I asked Alt: “make a music video of me as a linocut at the park communicating with cats through some device, they’re sharing their secrets with me…”

Under a minute later — poof, music video.

They’ve Been Running Itwatch it on alt.lol

The distance between a new capability dropping and my friends laughing at a music video about cats secretly running the world is now about a day.

That’s what I love about building right now. We get new capabilities that suddenly make some dreams possible, and we get to turn them into new ways for people to connect with each other.
